ALSO Tanzania
In
Tanzania with almost 40 million inhabitants the estimated maternal
mortality ratio increased from 529 to 578 maternal deaths per 100,000
live births between 1996 and 2004. 46% of deliveries take place at
health facilities. It is estimated that only five percent of peripheral
health facilities provide Basic EmOC and 64% of hospitals provide
Comprehensive EmOC.
ALSO was introduced to Tanzania in fall 2008 with help from ALSO Malawi. 250 providers have been trained.
Activities: Further courses are planned in Kilimanjaro and Kagera Regions.
ALSO Tanzania is based at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre in Moshi.
